Dublin Travel Basics for First-Time Visitors

If you have never been to Ireland, you are going to have a blast in Dublin. It’s one of the most fun and romantic cities in the world, and the people tend to have a very jovial sense of humor. You can learn all about it in guide to Dublin, but for now, here are some Dublin travel basics for first-time visitors.

Be sure to see some live music.

It should be a crime to visit Dublin without checking out at least one live-music show. Failing to do so may not make you a menace to society, but it certainly doesn’t seem right. Whether you want to pop into a pub and see a live band or guitarist, or if you want to drop into one of the clubs and see a live DJ set, you definitely need to get out there and listen to some music. There’s just nothing like the Dublin music scene.

Take a trip to the Guinness factory.

Whether you actually like Guinness or not, you probably want to check out this factory. It’s one of the oldest in the world, and if you do love Guinness, you get a free pint to keep you refreshed throughout the tour. You’ll learn all about the brewing and the bottling process, and you’ll definitely want to go for a delicious plate of fish and chips right afterwards.

Take a hike out in Howthe.

It’s a little bit far out of town, but a trip to the port city of Howthe is never a bad idea. You can jump on the train and get out there in about 30 minutes, or if you’re feeling ambitious and energetic, rent bikes and cycle your way out there in about an hour. The ride is completely flat, and if you enjoy it enough, you may want to get around Dublin by bike for the remainder of your stay. When you get to Howthe, you can sip coffee and chowder at a charming cafe, take a stroll on the beach, or hike up the mountain for a breathtaking view of the Atlantic.

Catch a rugby game at Trinity College Dublin.

If you’re a big fan of rugby, or even American football, you’re going to have a great time watching a live rugby match. Try to catch one at Trinity College, one of the oldest and most reputable educational institutes in all of Europe. With the gorgeous, medieval architecture and the lush green pastures, you might just think you’re at Hogwarts.

Bring comfortable shoes for walking.

No matter what you decide to do, you are definitely going to be doing a lot of walking. There is so much to see and the architecture is so beautiful throughout Dublin that you really want to spend a lot of your time outdoors. That’s why you want to be sure that you have very comfortable shoes to wear throughout the day. If you don’t, your trip could be tainted with memories of a lot of foot pain.
